Cohesive motion in one-dimensional flocking
نویسنده
چکیده
A one-dimensional rule-based model for flocking, which combines velocity alignment and long-range centering interactions, is presented and studied. The induced cohesion in the collective motion of the self-propelled agents leads to unique group behavior that contrasts with previous studies. Our results show that the largest cluster of particles, in the condensed states, develops a mean velocity slower than the preferred one in the absence of noise. For strong noise, the system also develops a non-vanishing mean velocity, alternating its direction of motion stochastically. This allows us to address the directional switching phenomenon. The effects of different sources of stochasticity on the system are also discussed. PACS numbers: 05.40.−a, 05.45.Xt, 64.60.−i, 87.10.−e

A Numerical Evaluation of Seismic Response of Shallow Soil Deposits
This paper employs one-dimensional numerical ground response analysis models to investigate seismic response of shallow cohesive and non-cohesive soil deposits on vertical propagation of horizontal shear waves. Soil response is modelled by traditional equivalent-linear (EL) frequency-domain analysis using DEEPSOIL software and nonlinear (NL) time-domain analysis using OPENSEES software. The ana...
متن کاملA Gravitational Search Algorithm-Based Single-Center of Mass Flocking Control for Tracking Single and Multiple Dynamic Targets for Parabolic Trajectories in Mobile Sensor Networks
Developing optimal flocking control procedure is an essential problem in mobile sensor networks (MSNs). Furthermore, finding the parameters such that the sensors can reach to the target in an appropriate time is an important issue. This paper offers an optimization approach based on metaheuristic methods for flocking control in MSNs to follow a target. We develop a non-differentiable optimizati...
متن کاملSafe Flocking in Spite of Actuator Faults using Directional Failure Detectors
The safe flocking problem requires a collection of mobile agents to (a) converge to and maintain an equi-spaced lattice formation, (b) arrive at a destination, and (c) always maintain a minimum safe separation. Safe flocking in Euclidean spaces is a wellstudied and difficult coordination problem. In this paper, we study one-dimensional safe flocking in the presence of actuator faults and direct...
متن کاملAnalysis and identification of complex stochastic systems admitting a flocking structure
We discuss a new modeling paradigm for large dimensional aggregates of stochastic systems by Generalized Factor Analysis (GFA) models. These models describe the data as the sum of a flocking plus an uncorrelated idiosyncratic component. The flocking component describes a sort of collective orderly motion which admits a much simpler mathematical description than the whole ensemble while the idio...
متن کاملControl of a Mobile Robot Swarm via Informed Robots
In this paper, we study how and to what extent a self-organized mobile robot flock can be guided to move in a desired direction by informing some of the individuals within the flock. Specifically, we extend a flocking behavior that was shown to maneuver a swarm of mobile robots as a cohesive group in free space, avoiding obstacles. In its original form, the flock does not have a preferred direc...
